I'm on venlafaxine as well...and it's working great so far.....It's an SNRI...you can read all about on wikipedia.

Really helped with the anxiety as well. Can't cope without it. Once you're on you mustn't miss your dose. I once forgot to take mine and around noonish the withdrawl effects hit me like a freight train....but apart from that it's worked really well for.....been on it for 3 weeks now.

you can pm me of course...if you wanna know more about it....

I am on 150mg venlafaxine and I am hoping it is doing something .It did seem to work at first but recently I feel like it might not be doing much. Have to agree don't miss a dose I get very bad dizzy spells and involuntary musclespasms if I forget to take it.

i was on it on/off for two years, it did work but only for short periods of time cos every 3months i would see the pdoc and it would have to increase the dose.

the withdrawl effects are not nice

I was on 225mg a day for 2.5 years, worked wonders for me but towards the end i felt really really numb all the time, to everything, my self harming decreased, my manic moods decreased, my moods stabalised within a few months of taking them, they literally saved my life! Coming off them was perhasp the most horrific thing i've ever done, withdrawl is terrible and it took me nearly a year to come off them completely, was off them for 3 months and i am now in the position where i'm about to go back on them.

Hello, I must be drifting down the same river as you coz in a very simillar boat!!!!!!!!!!! I came off Venlafaxine 225mg last October in order to go on to Atomoxetine for ADHD . That drug made me very ill so came off in Feb and now on Concerta(ritalin) for ADHD and no anti-dep. Big time depressed and don't want to get any lower coz have been making progress since on DBT. Gonna see my Pdoc fri and ask to go back on the Venlafaxine. I agree the withdrawals were bad, nearly got admitted. Only willing to go back on them coz they definately best anti-dep I've tried. Have tried nine others over last 18 years. In comment to original query about BPD Venlafaxine....yes, normally good one for most I know but they are not to be messed with. Take them as prescribed and don't miss a dose or stop suddenly. Good luck. TTFN, tizz x

HI,

I've tried aalmost all the anti depressents out there and venlafaxine the best so far. I am also on quietiapine XL now have been on it 3 weeks and things finally seem a bit better. Hubby says I am not quite so irraitonal and do not flip moods so much. Still waiting for psyhcpthery though.

Keep going the side effects to start with aren't great, but I hope it works for you X

My wife is on venlofaxine (3 weeks now), and she said it did seem to help at first, but she's getting lots of anxiety, and some shaking. Does this pass, or is she just not suited to this? She was on fluoxetine for 5 years +, and never really did anything for her. Her doc said to take them first thing in the morning, but she often leaves it until later in the morning. from what I've read on this thread so far, should I be encouraging her to take them earlier?

I've been on venlafaxine for 9 months now. When I first started taking it, I felt absolutely awful. It made me nauseous, lethargic, unable to eat and extremely anxious to the point where I would avoid socialising altogether. I also had tremors and involuntary muscle spasms. I felt this way for probably about a month (albeit with some fleeting moments of feeling 'normal' in between). BUT it DOES get better. It shouldn't really matter when your wife takes it as long as its at roughly the same time each day because of the strong risk of withdrawal symptoms. Just encourage her to stick with it, and in time hopefully she will start to feel better, this medication certainly helped give me the motivation to turn my life around when I was at my lowest point.

was an awful drug for me. first antidepressant i took and it made me feel suicidal and self-injure for the first time.

when i withdrew, i became hypomanic.

have since been on better ones, helped with both depression and anxiety. :)

if you find that it doesnt work for you, dont just come off it. like a lot people have said, it can have awful withdrawal effects, probably the worse out of all of the antidepressants. taper off slowly.

I have but I am also bipolar and I take venlafaxine, the problem is with any anti depressant is that where it will work on the chemical side of a depression it will not combat the emotional, psychological difficulties. unfortunately BPD is a psychological and emotional disease as well as bein chemical, so venlafaxine might combat the more physicl side of depression, such as lethargy and in the longer term anxiety as well, it merely masks the more emotional and psychological aspecrs of the disease at best, most people report that this is an effective medication for depression and anxiety and I have found it to be so, but I am using it in conjunction with therapy and it does not offer an 'answer' or a 'cure' to symptoms of bpd alone.

I hope you find some relief from your symptoms, living with any mentalhealth problem is often horrific.

this may be a placebo effect, or psychological, but seriously, within about an hour of my last post I've felt so much calmer, a bit drowsy but in a good way and nice and tired... I know those may not be the effects everyone wants but it's certainly helped me tonight x

jesus guys, today has been HORRIFIC.

Everyone at work must have thought I was crazy today... I couldn't sit still, talking like the clappers, my heart felt like it was gonna burst out of my chest...

I was really giddy too, and kind of anxious but not in the 'worrying' way, more like my body was expecting something to happen.. very strange!

It's worn off a bit in the last hour or so but I'm about to take my second pill of the day... not looking forward to it!xx

Was on Venlafaxine 150mg for a long while then they took me off it no warning, they said it was making me manic so I had to go through really shit withdrawls. Considering I was In hosiptal at the time i thought they may have done something to help me but no. They just wanted me out of the way so the crisis team didn't have to come in over the weekend. Hope you have a better experience. xxx Bumble

Did you like it when you were on it though?x

can't say i noticed it making a difference, but when they took me off iot i realized how it had kept my mood more level I was a mess without it for awhile. now i'm not on any anti depressants any more . I'm still depressed but can't be arsed to take tablets to get through it I realise they made me numb and ambivilant about most things. I was walking around in a sealed little box of misery unable to reach out. I don't really relate well to anti depressants anymore. I guess if i werte going to kill myself over it i might consider.

I was on venlofaxine for a short while and I can't remember the details but I know I reacted badly to it and they had to take me off it straight away sort of thing. It is a newer drug but is well known for having quite bad side effects. xxx

Today's not been AS bad... but it constantly feels like someone's pricking tiny, tiny little needles all at once down my arms and legs... but I find it really easy to wake up in the morning, and never feel tired (which is also a bad thing at bedtime of course!) x

I think you need to talk to your doctor hun. In my book it says that the side-effects should wear off within a few days so if still bad tomorrow defo ring for an appt. It says it can make you agitated and suffer from insomnia. I hope it settles down for you xxx

I think anti depressants can only be used in conjuction with therapy for the treatment of BPD, it's an emotional desease and there is no chemical that can treat your emotions, you have to be prepared to work out and work on why you feel so bad, feel the pain and come through the other end. I have BPD and although it's a life long mental disorder you can learn to adapt to your feelings and learn healthy ways to respond to them, i have. Although not perfect i am aware of myself and the distructive ways ai have used to get wht i think i need or want, i now just open my mouth and say exactley what it is i need and fortionatly am taken seriousley by proffessionals and friends n family. I don't neeed to pretend i am something i am not, i don't need to feign mental illness because it is what it is, and that is bad enough or good enough depending on how you want to see it. There is a way to change, you just need to want to. I have read peoples stuff on here and how they are not taken seriousley with thier symptoms of psychosis, that's because mostly i think people dont feel they are taken seriousley, so they create symptoms of mental illness, which are experienced i don't deny this, but believe me people can see through this, proffessionals i mean mostly. And end up seeing you as manipulating you have to just learn to say how bad you feel, in the long run this will get you taken much more seriousley and much more help. Nuff said.
