ElleT
Thanks Greenthing, unfortunately all of the therapist I have told this too say that I wasn't traumatized by it, because I don't act like it. Granted all of the same therapists couldn't figure out why I was seeing them, most of them said that I am a well adjusted young lady with a good head on my shoulders. Guess I'm really good a lying, but when I am in a good mind I don't remember the bad stuff. I've gotten better at remembering, but there is still a lot that I don't remember. I think hypnosis will be the only way to really get those memories back, and lots of docs don't like hypnosis.

Lois_Lane
I voted 4 yrs or younger. I may be wrong, but since I remember and by the stories about my childhood that I've been told, I was like 'that' since always... It's good thing this topic reminded me of that, I always tell therapists only about the period when things got out of control completely and become impossible to live that way. I should mention about my personality as a child.
DoubleA
I was just fully diagnosed with it a couple weeks ago but have had it as a possible diagnosis since about the age of 17.
emobarbie
I voted 5-8. I started to notice problems around 7. Started to self harm beween 8 and nine. Was down to an very unstable childhood which I will not mention. It is a big trigger for me. Started off as a way to escape from reality a lil pain and grew to become an obsession. I hid the marks from my mum. My dad was the problem. Had problems at school I felt so isolated like a loner who tried to make friends but kept being pushed away. I was Diagnosed with BPD around a year ago and things have been up and down for years. Hope that helps out Data ((make it so)) -smiles-

micki_t
I think that I have Bpd, although have not got a dx, and started to have symptoms from about the age of 5, if not younger. These included depressive and agressive mood swings, hiding away from people, refusing to see friends calling on me, and a lot of strange obsessive behaviour compared to most other kids. All of these symptoms worsened towards teen years, when I also started drinking and taking drugs (12years+), which developed into a continued cycle to present day (although I have managed calm down a little!). Junior8
I voted 13-15 because I was diagnosed in that period, but looking back I've always been diifferent, a mixture of violence, anxiety, stealing and self harm.
SadGrl
@annielou89, Sounds like me. My mom said when I was an infant, I would scream if my brother made a face at me that I didn't like. I was also very sensitive to any drama or emotion that took place in my household, including my grandma dying when I was a year old.

NiklovesMarc
Remember feeling different and detached from the world as a child, almost as though I was the only real person and everyone else only existed when I was in their company.... I don't know maybe everyone feels like that? Was never popular at school and always felt awkward and as though I just didn't fit in, I am sure I had MH problems when I was at school but wasn't diagnosed with anything until 3 months after the birth of my second child when I was 28. Then it was postnatal depression but over the years I've been told that I have all the symptoms of bipolar but my manic bits aren't quite manic enough, so they changed it to BPD with depression, anxiety and hyper mania. The main difference as far as I can see is that if you have a diagnosis of Bipolar you get DLA even if it doesn't affect your life to a horrendous extent whereas if you have BPD your not entiltled to it even if it makes your life a living hell... Sorry didn't mean that to turn into a whinge :ashamed0005:

Cooky Ducky
I wasn't diagnosed until a year ago so I was 46 but they reckon I have had it since I was a teenager when I made my first suicide attempt then just coped alone until I had certain events in my life that I finally couldn't cope with any more and I just 'blew' But reading many of the posts on here I think I showed signs much earlier and could certainly go back to age 10ish. Scrappy
The earliest memory i have is around 8-9 years old. I remember this awful feeling would come over me, i felt like i was not part of anything , like i was not real if this makes sense. I would have this overwhelming sadness and just want to cry. I still get those feeling now i think it was the start of feeling disconected and empty

Rafiki
I knew there was something different, something wrong at age 13yrs But, it only started becoming a serious problem in my life at 33yrs after a breakdown. I've been trapped on this rollercoaster now for 9 years but have only recently been diagnosed. Voted 26 +
Barbara A
I remember at age 11 being lonely, depressed, fearful of my physical safety, and did a bunch of compulsive rituals.
alizae
I voted 13-15, but the question is not easy to answer. I had severe social/emotional issues ever since kindergarten, although I could not understand that back then. At 14 I experienced some strange change in my brain chemistry that lead to the onset. I'd say everything began that moment. But it took few years (16-17) before I could experience any significant disabilities. But the final transformation happened at 19 when the former person I used to be seized to exist.
DorianK
I can't remember much of my formative years before the age of 16 ... ish, but I put down aged 9 - 12. My family moved to another city, hours away from where I grew up, but before that, I was the subject of harsh, harsh bullying and segregation. I also experienced my first death in the family, and the bullying didn't stop there, so this is what I'm attributing to the years that would follow. Sudden outbursts, hours upon hours of hopelessness and loneliness ... all forming and culminating into what I am today. So really, I grew up physically (I'm 6'3"), but I think I might be stunted emotionally.

manicwonder
From about 5 years old I'm still waiting on a full ASD test as I never could cope with change of teachers or routine. My anxiety came really bad when I was 10 years old going through exams. I got diagnosed this year with BPD after years of mood swings when I just constantly presented myself to A&E.
