Songs Which Move You

Recommended Posts

Which songs touch your soul? What gets your feet tapping and your blood boiling? What makes you feel ethereal or grounds you right here and now? What lifts you up? What leads you through the darkness?

I don't know if this thread already exists or if this topic is in the wrong place! Share your favourite music and maybe make someone's else's day.

I'm currently listening to:-

'Now we are free' from Gladiator -

just looking at some of my faves I've got on my laptop. I won't post youtube links as there's loads of them. These are all songs that touch my soul. The songs that make me dance are probably same artists/musicals but different songs though I think I could dance to anything.

I Wanna Be- Chris Brown

Almost Paradise- Footloose

Beauty School Dropout- Grease

The Climb- Joe McElderry

Seventeen Hands- The Maccabees

All I Want for Christmas- Mariah Carey

Primadonna - Marina & the Diamonds

Last Night of the World- Miss Saigon

What Makes You Beautiful- One Direction

Think of Me- Phantom of the Opera

Everybody Hurts- REM

Love the Way You Lie- Rihanna

I've studied psychology and I would like to say I can rationalize revenge. Revenge is for the colder souls as you have to leave and live with what you've done. You can't go around asking people to validate your actions, or if you do they are the type that don't think your behaviour is unhealthy. Amid all that is good there is bad and amid all that is bad there is good, so there is nothing or no one that is completely good or bad. I guess that is my answer to the acts of revenge. :)

All along it was a fever

A cold sweat high-headed believer

I threw my hands in the air and said, "Show me something,"

He said, "If you dare come a little closer."

Round and around and around and around we go

Oh now tell me now tell me now tell me now you know

Not really sure how to feel about it.

Something in the way you move

Makes me feel like I can't live without you.

it takes me all the way.

I want you to stay

It's not much of a life you're living

It's not just something you take – it's given

Round and around and around and around we go

Oh now tell me now tell me now tell me now you know

Not really sure how to feel about it.

Something in the way you move

Makes me feel like I can't live without you.

it takes me all the way.

I want you to stay.

Oh the reason I hold on

Oh cause I need this hole gone

Funny you're the broken one but I'm the only one who needed saving

Cause when you never see the light it's hard to know which one of us is caving

Not really sure how to feel about it.

Something in the way you move

Makes me feel like I can't live without you.

it takes me all the way.

I want you to stay, stay.

I want you to stay, oh.

Am totally addicted to James Blake's 'retrograde'.

Really makes me think and feel. Coming up with little stories and montages for the music in my head. When it kicks in at 1.44 it's like it jsut flows through my veins. Amazing feeling. The lyrics too a simple yet powerful.

LOVING THIS SOOONG.

i am a rock and roll chick but i must say- the song that takes me out of my mood this week is the 1975 band- chocolate song. its not musically brilliant but it just reminds me of dancing around my house with my dog.

there are too many life affirming songs for me to note down.

xx

I love a very beautiful song from my country, it makes me happy and the singer is coming to my city this month, I'm very anxious to see him again, I like him so much!!!!!

Carrying on- Almir Sater

I walk slowly, because I've ever been in a hurry
And I bring along this smile, because I've already cried too much
Today I feel stronger, happier... who knows
I just bring with me the certainty that I know very little, or nothing I know

To know the tricks and the mornings¹
The taste of the masses and of the apples¹
It's necessary love, to pulse
It's necessary peace, to smile
It's necessary rain, to blossom

I think that fulfilling the life is just
Understand how it works, and always carrying on²
Just like an old cowboy
handling the cattle, I keep carrying all days on
Through the long road I'm going, the road I am

To know the tricks and the mornings
The taste of the masses and of the apples
It's necessary love, to pulse (blood)
It's necessary peace, to smile
It's necessary rain, to blossom

Everybody loves someday, everybody cries
We get here today, and we will go away tomorrow³
Each one makes his own history
Each one bring with oneself the gift of being capable
to be happy

To know the tricks and the mornings
The taste of the masses and of the apples
It's necessary love, to pulse
It's necessary peace, to smile
It's necessary rain, to blossom

I walk slowly, because I've ever been in a hurry
And I bring along this smile, because I've already cried too much
Today I feel stronger, happier... who knows
I just bring with me the certainty that I know very little, or nothing I know

Knowing the tricks and the mornings
The taste of pastas and apples
It's necessary love, to pulse
It's necessary peace, to smile
It's necessary rain, to blossom

Author's comment:

¹ Tricks, mornings, pastas and apples: these 4 words were not meant to mean something special, but they were meant to be in there just because of the rhyme.

² Carrying on: moving forward/on.

³ We get here today, and we will go away tomorrow: literally means "one day we arrive, another day we go away", that means nothing is permanent in our lifes and if we just arrived here (if we just got some important achievement or something) it is not a permanent state, but another day it may fade away.

Is that Portuguese Liciane?

I remember seeing this on Jools Holland a few years back- I have no idea what she is singing, but the power and passion of the song blew my mind!

(PS I hope it is Portuguese, or the rest of my post is a bit irrelevant!)

Hi Jayjay, this is Portuguese from Portugal.

Beautiful song and interpretation!!! Thanks!! :D

See the English version

Oh People from My Land

This fado is mine and yours

a destiny that binds us

however it might be denied

to the strings of a guitar

Everytime one hears the cries

of a singing guitar

one becomes immediately lost

with a desire to cry

Oh people from my land

it is now that I understand

this sorrow I carry

I received it from you

And it would seem like fondness

if I allowed myself to be lulled

the bitterness would be greater

my singing would be less sad

Oh people from my land

Oh wow, thanks for the translation Liciane- the lyrics are beautiful! I was a bit worried that they'd be something really ordinary and mundane!

I understand she's very famous in Portugal. Incredible voice!

I'm currently listening to 'Grizabella' from Cats and also the Damon Albarn 'Dr Dee' opera which is weird yet soulful

A song sung by Brandi Carlile...

"The Story"

All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don't mean anything
When you've got no one to tell them to
It's true... I was made for you

I climbed across the mountain tops
Swam all across the ocean blue
I crossed all the lines and I broke all the rules
But baby I broke them all for you
Because even when I was flat broke
You made me feel like a million bucks
You do and I was made for you

You see the smile that's on my mouth
It's hiding the words that don't come out
And all of my friends who think that I'm blessed
They don't know my head is a mess
No, they don't know who I really am
And they don't know what I've been through like you do
And I was made for you...

All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don't mean anything
When you've got no one to tell them to
It's true... I was made for you

Oh yeah, well it's true... that
I was made for you...
