ArtMatters
Sometimes we get caught up In the beauty of the hurt The tinge of sweetness on it’s breathe As it constricts and squeezes The quick potent high Of lacking air before drowning Sometimes we get caught up in the expectations The people will change Or reconnect to us Whisk us away on that one last adventure The one that lay in the gap Between day dream and consciousness For so many years Sometimes we get caught up In the stories we repeat The ones told to us Or the ones we thought we Were supposed to write Sometimes we get caught up In the illusion of comfort Of success, and of joy In a world of copies and disposables We forget to connect to the maker And to ourselves Sometimes we get caught up In another persons story Loving something that is not ours Or someone Sometimes we let that other person Write the story for us Because we are scared or feel unworthy To write our own Sometimes we get caught up In emotions like hurricanes In self destructive heaps and cycles Replaying the tapes to assess the damage And forgetting how to pick up a shovel And start again Sometimes we get caught up In a sick dependency to time Reassurance seeking To make sure it will give us enough If we feel we have met its 'demands' And trying to get the biggest bang for our buck Sometimes we get caught up In wondering where to begin Though we have wandered far from the start And our finger wavers over The pause button Begging for the courage to press resume Without having to rewind or fast forward
