Went To Doctors

I've had a doctor's appointment booked for a while but the only reason it turned out how it did is because of Ruffryder posting about his physical problems and Art Matters suggesting a possible cause. So thank you Ruffryder and Art Matters!

They were talking about fibromyalgia which got my attention as I have nearly all the symptoms. I had so many of them even my mum thought I might have a point and she's usually not interested unless it was her idea. The doctor was quite surprised no one had suggested it before but she said she'd send me for the relevant blood test and she would test for a few other things at the same time. So I'm having the blood tests next week.

I am really happy. I know it might not come to anything. I know a lot of specialists don't care about how I feel, they only care about if the test results look normal. So it's possible I'll end up with a diagnosis that everyone refuses to do anything about. But it's nice to be working towards something again.

And they said I could have blood tests at the surgery instead of the hospital which is ideal. Walking to the hospital and back makes me really ill and public/private transport makes even me more ill. But walking to the surgery just makes me feel really tired and that's so much better!

hi emma glad u went drs and they are sending u for tests

unfortunately fibromyalgia does not show up on any blood tests....i had fm since 2005 but it will rule out other conditions that cud be causing pain / tiredness and.other things.. you may be refered to a rheumatologist if.they do susspect fm and he will do several othee tests but some drs dont. there are pain meds for fm but ive tried them and give them up as i try my best not to rely on them. anyway u dont need to know about those things yet. all that matters is your dr is taking u seriously.

good luck

emo xx

Well the doctor did say blood tests to test for it but it wouldn't be the first time she's got something wrong. She gets diagnoses wrong and gives out the wrong medication. I wouldn't normally choose to go to her but she gave me a phone consultation then said I should come in and see her and I didn't like to say I'd rather see someone else.

But she is very nice and she does listen which puts her ahead of most doctors. If I had gone to see someone else it would have been a gamble.

Emma, it's good to know you are getting somewhere with your doctors, it something not many of us can achieve :-) my friend has just been diagnosed with fm so I can relate a bit. I hope you get sorted x

thank you Distracted :)

I'm sorry your friend has been diagnosed but it sounds like you are a very kind and understanding person so that will be a help to her. I hope she isn't suffering too severely and that the doctors are giving her help and support xxx

I had the blood tests today. The nurse who did it was not nice and I have a bruise which has never happened on the many occasions when I've had it done at the hospital, it's still painful so I think I'll go to the hospital next time. But the test is done and I should get the results in a week or so :)

thank you :) I hope you get your blood test results soon. A lot of doctors are a bit offish but it's good you persuaded yours to let you have a blood test. I've seen lots of different GPs and they do vary a lot. Lots of them just change the subject or say it's all part of my mental health problems and refuse to do anything. The offish attitude isn't very nice but in a way that just shows how well you did to talk her into letting you have a blood test.
