Ive been on a lot of different meds in the last couple of years. The majority ive stopped because of side effects such as weight gain (ive a history eating disorder), restlessness, inner restlessness and agitation. As well as ones where my muscles would become so tight I couldnt move or talk properly and has to take anothee med to counter it.

Ive got on really well with quitiapine. I was on it for about a year or so in 2010 and no troubles except sleepiness. This was around the same time my diagnosis was being made and wether I was bpd or on the bipolar spectrum. Although bpd was the outcome.. So I was put back on quitiapine 75mgs in july this year. Ive just come out of hospital (for unrelated reasons) where they found my liver was 650 higher than it should be. After all the necessary tests they concluded it to be the quitiapine and took me straight off of it. My levels have since decreased to 275 higher than it should be yet theres obvious improvement and the consultant said it was medicational liver damage.

Im still suprised that this has happened given that in the past I was on 150mgs daily, amd I do not ever drink alcohol.

Anyway, I think im experiencing sum withdrawals of just feeling about a million things and alot of anxiety and anger and its about litarrally anything, although I have times like this most days its seeming a lot more difficult to calm down. The smallest worry is enough to call my day off and me deatructive in some way or thought. Plus even on 7.5mgs of zopiclone I do not feel sleepy and have trouble staying asleep which really windes me up!

Has anybody else found a good alternative to quitiapine with few side effects? I understand everyone is different, just trying to think what might help after the withdrawal and when I next c my gp.

im thankfully beimg rereffered back to mht. Just have to try n not mask things when im there again.

Hi, welcome to the site.

I'm sorry you can't take quitiapine. It's horrible when something helps and then they take it away from you. I take thyroxine and I feel so much better on 125mg a day but the doctors think it's not safe so I have to have a lower dose and feel ill.

I have never taken quitiapine but the antidepressant I am on amitriptyline helps me to sleep. I didn't sleep at all really till I started taking it but it made a difference almost straight away. It doesn't give me any side effects at all and most tablets I have taken do. Maybe this is something you can look into?

hi guys :)

Ive been put up a dose of citalopram and today all i have done is shake, i thought it might have been these strees and anxiety of being near people but even when i was home and resting the shakes wouldnt stop in my hands or upper body. Im on diazepam until they can get me another med in two weeks. They are thinkin of haloperidol again, ive never tried the others that you guys have mentioned, i have been suggested aripiprazole in the past but im hesitant with any med that list possible weight gain as a side effect. I know the med may help me feel better but it would totally counter it if i was to gain weight as my eating disorder would crop its ugly head and have me starve and then that would effect my mood too.

last nite did not end good, but thankfully i have a mht assesment tomorrow. just hoping i dont go blank and get a cpn who takes me seriously.

just an hour at a time right now me thinks...

i have also had the same problem with the liver test but was accused of drinking too much so had to stay off drink for a month and re-do the test in the end i told the dr it was the quietipine its listed in the side effects but hes never said any thing about coming off it im only on 75mg he did nt say how bad the liver test results were though. but i have an appt to see my gp about coming off them. my only concern is getting to sleep but ive been listening to meditations on my mp3 player in bed and it doesnt take long for me to fall asleep then.

Hey. I seem to be very sensitive to medication. I am unable to take antipsychotic medication, due to them increasing my prolactine levels two folds. I am unable to take SSRI antidepressants, eg sertraline because I am allergic or sensitive. I am unable to take SNRI antidepressants eg venlafaxine because they cause me to go into urinary retention. I currently take mirtazapine 45mg for sleep and depression. Pregabalin 600mg for anxiety and mood stabiliser and lomotragine 100mg for a mood stabiliser.

The Pregabalin is a God send for anxiety for me. The mirtazapine really helps send me to sleep, I didn't gain any weight on it but I know it is a very common side effect. My lomotragine is being reduced from 200mg because my moods fluctuated too rapidly on a higher dose. I'm relatively new to lomotrigne and am not sure if it helps that much. Pdoc says next step is lithium :-/

There are loads of different medication and mood stabalisers out there, I hope you find another that helps
