Hiya

It has been years since I have been on this forum and my life has changed and for once I had some good times, nothing amazing but just feeling I was moving forward for the first time in my life, which felt pretty amazing to me. This year that all came crashing down sadly and I am having to start that process over again. I wont go into how my life has changed since I first came onto this forum about 9 or so years ago thats for another time.

Now for the reason I have decided to come on tonight and write this. I am here to ask all of you who live in the UK to help give us all another option in the difficult mental health system we all face. I have noticed something very wrong and that is completely out of line with the way physical health is treated and so I started a petition on the UK governments webiste this is the link  https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/173033 . With mental health your GP can only refer you to the services in your area but with a physical health problem you can request to be referred to a different hospital out of your area. As more CMHT are referring people back to their GP's due to lack of funding this is becoming more of an issue for all that suffer with mental health difficulties. It means if anyone needs to be referred back for specialised treatment or would prefer to go to a CMHT in a different area they have to have their GP refer them to their local services for them to make the referral and as they have to fund it they have to have a discussion about whether it will be beneficial. For me I see this as not having the patients best interests in how this is the system, not only does it waste money but also crucial time for someone to be assessed by the right people to help them in the best way. Sometimes a GP has seen past relapses or knows the person enough to know what is different, whereas at a CMHT the person doing the assessment might not have met the person before but gets to be the one to determine the course of action taken.

Please help me with this fight and sign the petition and share it because even if people don't request to be referred out of area at least it gives people another option if they wish.

Relate the mental health system as it is now to someone with a physical possibly life threatening illness. Would you want them to have to be referred from their GP to their area service first and then let them determine if they were a good enough service for them or debate on if they have the funding to send them else where who might be better resourced to help more OR would you want them to have the option of discussing with their GP and being part of the process in their course of treatment like the physical health system is now.

GP's should be able to refer people where they need and want to go for ALL health issues.

Thank you for reading and signing if you have. This is something I am very passionate about changing but can't do it on my own so appreciate any help you can give.

People should be albe to self refer The GP system is disgusting

if you have a care plan its possible to get those services using something like this (personal health budget)

although this would allow for your care plan to be met by the privite sector not by another local authority

I think in an ideal world we would want to be able to do a lot of different things with the system but you have to start somewhere. This isnt going to be my only thing to try and do to help. We can all sit around complaining about it or try and do something about it. As I have said it may not work or help everyone but it may give some people another option and cant that only be a good thing, even if it made it easier for just one person or got them the help quicker I would feel everyone who helped make that happen to have done something truly good. If this gets changed it brings physical and mental health care and the way it is treated more in line and that may then lead to other things. Of course I am not saying this is something that will be amazing and sort everything, far from it there is such a long way to go. I have been in the system since I was 12 I know how it works and what walls they put up and I have seen an opportunity to attempt to change something for the future and it may not have helped me but maybe it will help someone. If we put up our own barriers and not give ourselves more options when there is a chance then it will get no where nothing will change it will never move forward. Please see this as a starting point and what possibilities it can lead to and be a part of that. I have to get a lot of people involved in this and I will be working hard to try and give it the best chance. Anyone who can help me I would appreciate it greatly.

I don't think it's right that the mental health system is wired completely different Lee to the physical one that makes no sense to me

By having a physical disability and various mental health problems I can see the differences in the two systems and it's wrong  that there are two different systems in the first place
