Mildly Irritated.................whats That?!

I had a call from a new therapist who specialises in EMDR . I need to be assessed to see if this further therapy/treatment will be suitable. My psychodynamic therapy is coming to an end in a couple of weeks.

One of the things she requested was that I bring something along to the session next week that has mildly irritated me, like on a scale of 1-10 it needs to be around 5.

I said I could think of loads of things but they would all be on a scale of at least 8 or 9

What sort of things would you be mildly irritated about or are mildly irritated about, that you would give a 5?

Pickle the entire idea makes me laugh! :hug2: You sound mildly irritated that you've been asked to bring something mildly irritating!

On a serious note, I would say, people that don't keep their dogs on leads when they are on roads. Since smokers can't smoke indoors at restaurants, I feel mildly irritated in the summer when they sit and smoke outside. There is a restaurant by the river that we go to often in the summer as a family and people on the next table can be smoking, I think they should move away from other people eating. I don't feel angry I just think it is mildly irritating and inconsiderate. People that say, "You'll never guess what".

No I probably won't, and you don't want me to, so just say. That irritates me, not enough to say, "I'm not going to guess just say for goodness sake".

I've thought of another!

I am mildly irritated when I go out for a meal and the majority agree to have an entree, and one smug person who will claim to be dieting doesn't have a starter. So they sit there whilst everyone else eats, making the rest of us feel like pigs! It forces me to order a light entree which I don't even want.

Hi Pickle! I remember when I was asked the same for EMDR I picked a memory of when I had come late to a serious appointment and felt so embarrassed about it. Coming late to an appointment is something people usually find mildly irritating I think.

I'd say that being mildy irritated means that you feel uncomfortable about it but still can challenge the emotion, it doesn't burst but it's mild path to the stronger emotion.

Print this out or draw an image of how you were when you got the phone call! I get mildly irritated when my computer crashes or when i can't find something.

Odd socks also irritate me but probably not at a level 5.

(((BeaBee))) You made me smile  ...........You are right in a way about being mildly irritated about the suggestion.xxxxxxxxx

I suppose I don't do mild naturally, its like I'm irritated or not, but degrees of irritation I did struggle with the idea :bigarmhug[1]:

Your suggestions are really helpful.xx

(((ThreeMoons))) Did you find the therapy helpful? The lady sounds very nice and gentle and connected. I liked the idea of her explaining what my part in it has to be in preparation for the assessment, and I can relate to your suggestion that the mild irritation is something I'm uncomfortable with but can challenge the emotion. I can process that, so thank you.xx

(((Kitsune))) Odd socks irritate me hugely :P & thank you, I will print this out.xx P.S. (((really sorry to hear about your car bump yesterday))) Are you Ok?

Pickle, I beg you to say that being asked to think of something mildly irritating was mildly irritating!

And they say people with BPD are difficult!

I'd find the therapy helpful if B. inside wasn't blocking it all... Now we are working to moderate his inappropriate defense before maybe trying EMDR again. But what I felt during the therapy before it shut down was helpful, yes.

B. sounds confused again about appropriate and innapropriate protection, we really need to work on this.

Lol - I've been trying to think of 'mildly irritating' things - and I can only think of the things that makes me want to hit the person over the head when they irritate me - like someone walking slowly or my hubby... just being around me lol! I'm not sure what irritates me a little bit - as everything just goes OTT and ends up making me seriously arghhh... hope you manage to find something...

Thanks Pickle :-) feeling a little lazy at present, given up voluntary work for the time being, and haven't really got the energy to go back, but feeling like I should. Have some work to do, but don't seem to be doing that either... not much energy, feeling tired and so not posting as much. Need to get back in :-) with the forum etc... nice to hear from you *hugs* xx
