Metalneck Posted February 18, 2017 Report Share Posted February 18, 2017 Hi, Well what to say? I'm 49yrs old, male and have had MH issues since my teens. In 2014 I reported my abuser, a former scoutmaster and policeman. Unbeknown to me a number of others ad come forward at around the same time. A lengthy and traumatic process ensued and in a nutshell, the abuser was sentenced to 20years imprisonment. The judge was apologetic as he was restricted to 1980s sentencing guidelines and was quite clear he wished he could have handed out a tougher sentence. I am currently for want of a better term 'recovering' with the help of a specialist sexual abuse counsellor funded by a charity. It has been life changing and mentally I'm the healthiest I have been in my adult life. Not wanting to sound too cliched, but facing the demons was somewhat cathartic. Not so much the 'justice' aspect but the fact I have now been acknowledged and believed. This needed to happen to allow me to move forward. I think that is enough for an introduction.
