Norithespider
I think one of the reasons for stigma surrounding BPD is that it is a very complex disorder, and there are parts of it that many mental health professionals don't understand. I think that encouraging therapists to understand BPD, to know how to recognize it, and to know how to refer people who have it even if that doctor isn't comfortable treating it, is still a very new idea. Because in order to understand BPD means understanding the difference between suicidal ideation and impulsivity, manipulation and bad interpersonal skills, and doing things on purpose, accidentally, and accidentally on purpose. I have been amazed at how things have changed just in the 10 years I have been getting treatment, I do feel like doctors do have a better understanding now, even if it is a rudimentary understanding. But, I do agree that even with doctors who are trained to work with personality disorders, that is still a sense that they have up a higher wall than with other disorders.
