whalesong
Hello everyone. I've just started doing DBT therapy this Monday and I have a question. I was into Buddhism before I started DBT and I'm happy that DBT includes aspects of Buddhism (mindfulness); I also read in a DBT book about a Zen practice. My question is: should I study Buddhism along with DBT or should I just focus on DBT? I'm so confused. I've been throwing myself into Buddhism but I'm not sure if that is the right thing to do. Part of me wants a spiritual life and I really like Buddhism and it can be so helpful (mindfulness) but I'm afraid of being consumed by the vast religion of Buddhism. I mean, compared to Buddhism DBT is quite small and yet it takes many things from Buddhism and different forms of meditation. I find that I want to throw myself into Buddhism but I'm not sure if it is healthy to study it. I suppose the healthiest thing would be to do Buddhism in moderation, right? Or should I just cut out all Buddhism together? Thank You. Whale Song
Eagleheart
Don't give up the Buddhism! It's a super spiritual path to take. But doing DBT is quite intensive and I would say you focus on the DBT work you'll have to do. But incorporate Buddhist ways into your DBT journey. I wish you all the best on your path.
