10th April 2004 Mouse on Meds

For Josh, the inspiration for this poem, and his mouse- of course.

Dark in the light of the dawning sky,

Scratches can be heard,

Creeping through the air.

Screaming whispers of the ghosts beneath the floorboards,

Find holes in the cheese.

A nibble in the lithium bottle,

"Oooh! Pretty stars!" -

Cease to exist.

Stupid in their intelligence,

Little animal,

With a ball,

Thats attached to the typewriter-

Restless, and untamed,

Gnawing at fury ears.

If the inevitable is false,

Perhaps the grasshopper will swallow the toad.

But sure enough, along came the beast.

Early one Christmas dawn,

In the light of the afternoon rain of September last July,

T'was this gigantic little animal that caused havoc-

Mayhem.

Shattered glass flew across the mist.

From one side fell the ocean,

From the other rose the rain from the ground.

But still, at 6ft tall,

It would not drown.

An illusion of your manic unreality,

The mouse on meds

Will be the death of me.
