Ocean Wolf
I dunno... I think Valentine's day is more of a commercialist holiday than Christmas. While we're on the topic of christian holidays that are celebrated, if atheists celebrates St. Patrick's Day are they wimps? ramfan007
what a great topic. Im with the each to their own bunch. Im not religious in the slightest but I am spiritual and I find spending christmas with my freinds a real treat in an otherwise dull time of the year. Does that make me wimp, in your eyes maybee but i don't actually need to worry about what you think. Im also with you Dolly on the whole religion and war thing. Personally im just happy to get along with you all and respect and accept the differences between us, it really does make life much simpler and if more people where like me in this respect there would be a lot less conflict. So happy chrstmas to those who want to celebrate it for whatever reason and for thos who dont, "good for you", the world would be a dull place if we all like the same things.Take care allRam
Stezzy
I think that Christmas can and should be meaningful in the way that feels right for each person/family. Just because someone is an atheist doesn't mean they're a hypocrite for celebrating Christmas. Christmas to them might mean love, appreciation, time with family etc. Those are all important things and some people like to have a special time of year to celebrate those things. Some people might not want to, but I don't think there's anything wrong either way. I agree that Christmas has become very commercialised now and that part of it I don't like, but the basic message of Christmas is suitable for everyone, religious or not.I'm a believer (though i don't follow a religion) and I think that if everyone was more tolerant of everyone else's views/beliefs the world would be a much better place.
