Dental Work, To Be Or Not To Be.

I have the first of two or three IV sedation dental sessions booked in for Tuesday; I need an extraction (due to an abscess) and five fillings [this is what you get with your bulimia], but my escort has pulled out and I won't be treated without one. Regardless of looking like an unworthy time waster, I won't be able to get another appointment for ages; I have had this abscess for longer than I can remember and it took me a very long time to get this appointment. No one else seems to be able to step in. I'm suitably stressed and upset about this, tears and all.

I really don't think there is anyone and because I'm going to be pumped up to the eyeballs with midazolam I should probably be quite choosy with regards to my escort because I'm going to be quite vulnerable besides.

I would definitely take you if I lived close by. I too just went for xrays on thurs. I too have 5 cavities. I thought, how do you get 5 cavities at age 35?

Then reading your post, it could be the purging for the last 20yrs. So is this what they mean, by it rotting your teeth? Oh, I don't want to think of it, I don't want to believe.

sticks head in sand,

Thanks Sah :hug2:

I mentioned my concern a while ago to my regular dentist about the affects of my ED of my oral health, and asked what could be done about it and they can varnish your teeth every two or three months; I've just had mine done. It's something they normally only offer to children and since I get free dental treatment I don't know what the cost would be.

Varnishing? I will have look it up, I don't know if the would offer it where I go. How long have you been having this done?

I don't know that I have the guts to tell anyone about my purging. It has always been a well kept secret among friends, family, and lovers. They all know about it, but no one talks about it or interferes. I wouldn't even know how to go about making a case for myself, especially when I have no intention of changing.

I hope you can find someone willing to take you to the dentist in the next day.

My friend just decided she would take me, I think she felt bad and asked if I could get a taxi and I explained again that I have to have someone that will look after me because of the sedation and she said she would :).

I didn't have to make a case for myself, its not their place to judge.

I am really pleased to read, you were able to find someone to take you and look after you too. Maybe I can find a way to comfortable bring it up with my dentist, it might be an extra.

At least I don't feel alone about my dental situation, who would have known we were up to the same thing. Ty for the tip, and good luck!

Thanks Sah and Angel. Sah I really hope you can find a way to bring it up because it's settled a lot of my anxieties around it. It's called 'fluoride varnishing', and a lot of the literature pertains to children and says it should be done twice a year but my dentist says because of the vomiting every 2-3 months.

I've just gotten back from the dentist, 3 fillings down and the extraction; we did better than expected! So 2 fillings to go in August. Feeling a bit worse for wear; starting to feel my mouth again now, although, not my ear  yeah he really went for it with the anesthesia and midazolam'd so here's hoping this make sense (was told not to sign any contracts in the next 24 hours )... but *two thumbs* I'm getting on top of oral health!

I go to the dentist today for the first time in 4-5 years....no dental insurance, so I am concerned, but I'd better go. Dollar signs are rolling around in my eyeballs....

How much does the fluroide varnishing cost? I sort of tried to raise it with my hygienist this morning but she just told me about how they give it to children cos children dont look after thier teeth as well but they dont give it to adults cos by the time you get to adulthood you can be expected to clean your own teeth. I just felt too embarrassed to push it :( silly me.

:o, the cheek of it! I didn't go to the hygienist, my dentist just did it for me. I don't have to pay for treatment under an NHS dentist; I have a HC2 cert'. but I called my surgery just now to ask and they said they think it falls under the lowest band that is £16.20 per application.

Good luck Angel!

Well, I'll stick with sending you good vibes, obviously requiring IV sedation for treatment I'm not an authority on how to overcome dental phobia
