Advice Needed Please?

my gp is reluctant to put me on medication. this morning she gave me 7 tablets (all im allowed) of Trazodone.

she told me to take one (50mg) at night, and it will help me, but im only allowed 7.

she said she doesnt want me to be on anything long term as she isnt an expert in these kind of drugs.

i dont really get what these are or how they're gonna help over just one week?

does anyone have any experience of these?

to be honest, i was in no fit state to listen to what she said about them, and my mum got the prescription, so i dont really know what im taking tonight????

have just looked this up, and it says everywhere that this is an antidepressant, and should be taken over time to see effects.

i dont understand why my gp only wants me to be on it for a week?

surely its not going to help over a week?????

she told me to come back, and i dont fancy spending every week down the doctors, either?

Maybe she is trying to keep you safe. After the prescription is used up she prolly give you more...she is just taking precaution it seems. :)

Hi pinky,

Trazodone is a anti-depressant with sedative effects which is why she has suggested you take it at bedtime, it should help you sleep a little better

50mg is a really low dose, so hopefully you won't find too many probs with it

I wouldn't worry too much at only being prescribed 7 pills, seeing her weekly to talk over how your feeling and how the meds are doing can only be a good thing right?

It's a bit weird her saying she doesn't want you to be on anything long term as anti -depressants take a while to get into the system , all i can think of is she has given you the trazadone more for the sedative effect short term than the anti-d long term

hope you find they help you

(hugs)

 She prolly knows enough about antidepressants to know it takes longer than a week. Try and trust her she seems to be trying to help you out which is a good thig since the dumb ass mental health team does not look like they are doing much. Your doctor cannot refer you to a psychiatrist?

lol

she had to phone another doctor to prescribe these! whilst i was there!

she wants me to see a pscych, but the mht can only refer me, and they refuse to see me.

so im kinda trapped.

she said they dont have access to speak to a duty psych any more, only the mht can do referrals and contact??

this could be true or it could be shit?? lol

bloody good job i can laugh at it right now, or i will go totally insane

how come they wont see you?

there is a place called the henderson hospital, and cassel they are both therputic communitys run by the nhs that evryone can be reffered to and the specialise in personality disorders, you go in and become part of there community for 9mths 1yr, it sounds like it is really helpful. you just need a refferal from a professional like your gp, why not look into it if you are getting no other help?

trazadone is also prescribed for sleep problems

I was on Trazadone and it made me tired all the time. I was literally falling asleep during the day and I told the doc this and he took me off them. They did take a few weeks to kick in.

pinky,

your gp has full powers to refer you. I dont think they can refuse a referal?

if they do you may like to contact your local mind centre (this can bedone by email if you dont like the phone etc) as the offer a good advocacy service and lots of support.

if you dont like your G.P then it is your right to change, dead easy just walk into a different surgery and bingo

you need to have a shrink before you can cahnge one, sma e goes with cmht, to cahange a shrink you have to ask your gp or shrink to refer you, they cannot refuse but you need to be clear on why this team isnt helping

Mind run an advocacy service where they will help you with this

if you are being refered in nov i guess that most people would say wait to see what the outcome would be

You can ring PALS patient liasion service and they can help point you in the right direction

What has your G.P done? she has prescribed meds, reffered you to councelling, what happened between you and you cmht?

I know its hard but you have to be
