Hi all,

Just joined this forum last night with much trepidation but relief at the same time!!!thats me all over. Can`t believe how much i feel `i`m home`????(does this make sense?).Struggled with mental health probably since the age of appprox 12/13 and always had it passed of as depression, always suspecting it was more than depression ?! It fits quite accurately however everything i`ve recently read up on BPD .

I``m not really at my best tonight (as have spent most of the afternoon trying to explain everything to my hubby(after having not spoke for the last two wks!,who is frustrating me coz i feel he just does`nt grasp it??!,or he doesnt care enough),though he says he can`t have an opinion as i always talk over him or do what i want to do anyway! He maintains my behaviour has made his brain `numb` and he has just learned to keep quiet.I feel very angry and sad about this.He also says he can`t give me whatever it is i so desperately crave.......I just don`t know where to turn?????Does anyone else ever feel like this or am i a total fruitcake???

Also, can anyone recommend an expert therapist in the north west??Or anywhere i can check in for a week/month (whatever it takes) for intensive therapy?I think i am looking for DBT Therapy??

ANY advice is very much appreciated............Thanks Vicky

Welcome to the forum! I felt at home here right away also. And I have a lot of relationship problems with my fiance that sounds similar to what you wrote. My fiance says things like that to me too sometimes and I find it so aggravating. I'm sure we both have valid points though, lol. Sorry I don't have any information that you asked for, but good luck with everything!

Hi vicky,

Yes, i felt at home here too. Its nice to be around people who understand. My husband is trying to understand but hard for people who haven't actually experienced it. As for therapist, have you considered looking in the phone book and calling a mental health phoneline? they may be able to give you advise on that. The NHS list is annoying long

Welcome and hope you find it supportive here

:welcomeani: Vicky

You can get therapy on the NHS but what is available varies from area-to-area and there can be long waiting lists.

The alternative is to go private, which can be expensive (but its the route I have taken). If you want you can look these up on google:

  • BACP (for counsellors and psychotherapists)
  • UKCP (for psychotherapists)
  • BPS (for psychologists)

:welcomeani: I used to have a lot of relationship problems. Enough so that the poor guy is still scarred. :P Will add more details later if you want, but have my hands full at the moment. :)

:welcomeani: Cut the "self diagnosed BPD" from your info. You dont do that. You can't! However not having a label yet does not mean you're not suffering. I understand that. But don't self diagnose. BPD is soooo complex. You can't self diagnose

hello and :welcomeani:

after years of trying im still struggling to explain things to my bf and he struggles to understand. unless you have experienced a feeling yourself it can be hard to understand it so its probably not about not caring enough. its good that you are looking to find a therapist, sorry i dont know about the services in the north west but your best bet is to speak to your gp and ask to be referred to a mental health team and get a psychiatrist who can give you a diagnosis if necessary and sort out the right help. hope you find it helpful here.

Hi vicky and welcome, i am new to this forum as of yesterday but not new to bipolar disorder which i have had for 40 years or so and i am so surprised that nobody has suggested SELF HELP GROUPS. I started a group in Buckinghamshire in 1994 with the help of funding from head office in London MDF as it was known then. The group is still going strong and has proved to be of great moral support for sufferers and their carers. If you phone the 08456 340 540 they will give you the contact number for your local group.

Welcome Vicky,

I wouldn't have a clue about how to get DBT unless referred by a professional, not sure whether a GP can refer you for this or whether it has to be a mental health specialist - I would echo what others say and see your GP maybe.

Hi Vicky hun,

I know how it feels when the other person does not understand. I guess sometimes in ur frame of m ind u look upon ur partner for the answers. I know I do. Unfortunately Ive come to realise that no one can answer but ur self. It might not be today, or tomorrow but itl be there somewhere.

Im from the Uk aswell but Im frm South... Sunny Oxfordshire yayyyyyy!!!!

When I was really bad once my doctor referred me to the "Crisis Team". these r people you can contact at any time of the day. At night there is a voice mail option and if u leave a message they contact u straight bk with an option of jus a natter on the phone or they are able to call round in some cases.

I am currently not seeking help frm them. I have been referred back to seeing a counsellor thru my doctors surgery. My sessions start nxt wk and im so scared. Everything building up in my head ready to explode out on this poor women.

If you havent talked it thru with ur doctors first, try looking to see if there is a crisis team available in ur area.

I wish u luck my friend and let me know how u get on. xxxxxx
