The Disappointing Nature of Things

Jeff woke up with a sour growl in his throat. His weeping sore of a mouth, disobeyed the holiest of good intentions and breathed a arid sigh. Life, his life, was gotten by tongue and thrust itself into the dark with a kind of indecision wavering in the air before daring to breathe again. Membranes and mucus, deep beneath him, stirred the detached loose skin of an ‘other’. It was the itch that this frustration birthed which nudged him away from the cling of wet bed sheets and sweet tang of his night-sweat.

The dread and drear of an 80 year lifespan, 23 of which was spent and spent in the erection and ejaculation of impulsive electrical impulses, spent – that’s what he was - spent.
