Chocolate Orange

BORN - created

full of segments

all held in their place

stuck neatly

tightly packed

'perfect' they said

all fitting together

working together

being together

but the heat of life

begins to melt them

they loosen

they shift

they feel wrong

time moves on

they twist and turn

they weaken

but still the wrapper

holds them in

keeping their 'perfect' shape

hiding the distortions within

as the years move

more and more they melt

they break

no longer fitting

gaps appearing

the wrapper struggling

to contain, to conceal

then one day

the 'perfect' whole

is hit

hard

shattered

the wrapper bursts open

the released segments

break apart

spilling out

in pieces

damaged

broken

this way

that way

tumbling

out

into the light

into the world

for all to see

they lay

stunned

raw

confused

lost

longing to be together

to fit together

to work together

but they are damaged

scarred

mishapen

misplaced

the wrapper is torn

their places gone

their perfection destroyed

they gather

in pieces

this way

that way

failing to connect

searching for security

for a whole

that can contain them

nothing fits

nothing belongs

nothing holds

there is no wrapper

ready for them

waiting to hold them

in a perfect form

ed. even crappier version of the crap version lost earlier

What an amazing analogy, Walker.

The best poem I have ever read here.

What sprang to mind after reading it, is that a chocolate orange is still wonderful even after it has been broken apart. xx
