Handwriting Ocd

Well, this might sound rather unusual but here goes.

I love writing letters to people. Since my latest bad turn in October last year I cut off all my contacts and felt unable to write letters as I felt I didn't know what to write about and just felt raw.

Now I would like to start writing again but I am so obsessed with my own handwriting which keeps me from making a start. I HATE it when the page I have written on doesn't look right. I sometimes start letters over and over again because I made a mistake or feel my handwriting isn't good enough. Sometimes I feel I don't have the right pen or the right paper, so I need to start again.

It's so daft, I know, but I've been telling myself for two weeks now to write a letter to a certain person, who I get on with well but just the thought of sitting there and not getting it right I feel so strange that I don't even make a start.

Another thing is that it's important for me to write by hand. I couldn't stand sending a letter which I've typed and printed and just signed.

The thing is that I love writing - I've got shoeboxes full of different pens, tons of different paper...but I just don't know how to start without wasting reams of good paper :(

Sorry for this, I don't know if anyone can relate but it is bothering me...dunno what else to say, would just love to get rid of this and just get on with it :(

I relate hun, my writing has to be perfect! If I've made a spelling mistake or crossed something out I have to start over... looks messy otherwise!

Hugs! x

Hi, i can relate too. I am studying a course at college and its terrible i have to start on the fourth line down or i have to start again. Even on the laptopn i have OCD and repeatedly write some words over and over it really is frustrating and so time consuming. I really have no advice to give because i can't stop it myself, hope you get to write again soon.xx

Pere

This isn't daft at all - I love writing hand written letters and will rip up pages if it doesn't look right or neat enough or if I've made a mistake. I like to use an ink pen to write and sometimes that can make an unexpected blob on the page and I have to rip it up and start again. I am also really OCD about abbreviations and like to write in long hand - I know I abbreviate sometimes on this site but that's because sometimes I too tired to write it all out properly but I still don't like it.

I also love and pens and good quality writing paper and would never write a letter to a friend using the laptop - sometimes for business stuff but never for anything else - so I can really relate to what you are saying here xxxx

Can relate too hun.

Even if I'm just scribbling a shopping list for my eyes only, I still have to start over again if a letter looks wonky or if I make a mistake. Sometimes, it can look fine to me too, but it just doesn't feel right, so I have to start again. I used to write letters all the time, but it just got too stressful for me and so now I just can't bring myself to do that.

xx

Thanks for all your replies - I guess it's just another little thing where we're being critical and good to know I'm not the only weird one with pen and paper...gaaaah, I still hate it though...envying people that write so neatly and smoothly.

Anyways, I guess I was just having a little weep...thanks again.

oooo just saw this!

handwritten letters are so personal i LOVE them. i do however have the same problem as u...

and in college i have to get used to typing assignments its how i will have to do it in uni. but i despise it lol. we can handwrite stuff we've been told but i need to get into the habit of typing my assignments.

i have handwritten a few things though. the last essay i handwrote i did about 8 times (8 is my ocd number ) before i was happy with it  piuma thought i was doing all this extra work when i wasn't...

so yeah, im SO with you on this one.

it means a i get great feedback though! :P

He he toast! I sometimes even wrote stuff on the computer (so I could delete and shuffle text around etc) and then handwrote it...

Yesterday I just got another set of pens - 20 surprise pens from Pilot. They're awesome and I keep doodling and writing useless stuff with them

OOOOH, I'm so pleased I've found someone else, who falls hideously in love with pens :) There's a great website called cultpens.com from which I get lots of pens :) Whenever I'm browsing I'm being 'accused' of pen porn (yet again :P) I'm absolutely lost in stationary shops and probably need 5 lifetimes to be finishing all of the pens I've got (hideous amounts of cartridges, too) If ever there was a world shortage of pens, I'm in business, toast!!! People will buy from me and because there's a shortage, I can sell for quite a lot of money. But behold, oh no, there's toast with her five pencil cases, oh no, she will be competition to my (thought of) monopol.

I only trust very few people with my pens. I used to start stealing school friend's pens in primary school but stopped once I got pocket money. Now my hands sometimes wander when there's a burst pack in the supermarket :ashamed0005:
