Documentary About Bpd

i have decided that i would like to make an independent documentary about bpd that would hopefully be good enough to sell to tv

i would like to follow the lives and stories of three to four people with the disorder and interview many more about their experiences of the disorder. it would also be a chance to illuminate the gross lack of approproiate treatment and the inefficiencies of the mht and doctors who deal with us

the documentary aims to educate people about bpd, highlight the causes and present the latest research and theory on the disorder, with interviews with doctors/psychiatrists etc

the whole issue of what a 'personality disorder' is will be explored also

obviously this would involve me filming you and you would have to go into it in the knowledge that this would then potentially be aired on tv. once people see you on tv you may have to put up with discrimination in the outside world, so this is worth considering

i cannot use people living outside the uk either as this would become too expensive for me

ideally i want to show borderline problem areas - fights with partners, angry outbursts, black and white thinking, self harm, inability to cope with daily life or job or kids etc... basically, what it is like being borderline

and that is what i wanna call it : BEING BORDERLINE

well let me know if you are interested. i think it is a really brave, bold step, but it may help a lot of people in the future and spur improvements in treatment / research, so it would be a good and noble thing to do

plus you get to meet me and i am very nice :)

Surely there are some exhibitionists out there...I'd do it

but I'm here in Illinois. Keep the thread going so lots of

members get to see it and have a chance at it. I think it's

a great idea!

lol - porn fans

well it is my preference to have people's faces there, but if nobody wants to do it for reasons of shyness, then faces can be edited out and identities kept secret

kazza i would love to have you in it. or holding the boom stand!

ver - i would love to have you in it too. it's a shit you live in usa : (

bare - i understand camera shyness - something weird happens to me when faced with a camera; suddenly, i can't be me

but i think that is quite borderline as well, ironically - lack of self confidence/self asssuredness etc

in a way it would add to the understanding of bpd if people didn't want to be shown - shows how insecure and self hating we are

that's really interesting actually

lol

I love this idea!!!

you've tickled my fancy a bit with the idea of "pixelling" me!!!!

also wouldn't it be great if you could capture the different faces of bpd - days when people can't say anything positive, then when they won't sit still and can't stop singing (I think I might be bi polar not BPD sometimes!)

anyway, more news on this lets keep it going hurrah!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can angelina Jolie play me in the film????? or better still can I have sex with angelina jolie in the film? I could be played by, erm.......its not just about me is it. sorry I got a smidge carried away by the romance of it all. It's a bit like calender girls, but different.

stoned again.

the other way we could do it is like a video diary

so whenever you feel the need, the opportunity is there to record your thoughts, feelings, mind state, etc

this keeps privacy to an extent, because you only record what you want to be seen

and cheaper too as i don't have to be there all the time and can just leave you with a camera

hmmm, worth thinking about

calm down kazza it's only a commercial lol

i need to think about how best to do all this, but there is a lot of potential here for sure

i know there are two main approaches - secure a deal after you make it, but this way you have to do it all on the cheap cos you don't have funding, or, secure the deal first, get funding, a camera crew etc

obviously the second way is better, but i do like to do things the hard way so that needs to be factored in

erm...

i wonder how doc makers retain the sense of normality in a household when they are filming?

if you have ever seen supernanny for instance, people mostly ignore the camera and just carry on as normal, even the kids (except in that episode with the exorcist like child whose head span round 360 while the vitriol of hell flowed unrestrained out of her tiny seven year old mouth, as she kicked and spat and eventually turned on the cameraman and screeched, "get out of my room", which i must say had the desired effect and rapidly too).

i find this 'normality' quite odd, because if there was a camera in my house filming me all the time, i'm sure i would be decidedly abnormal.

maybe they have adjustment/ practise days where they get used to being filmed.

anyway. need to think about that too. oooh - there is suddenly a lot to think about.

exciting x

OK seriously head on now.

It is very possible to do it the first way, on the cheap. and do it pretty well to, I think anyway. what sort of equipment do you have? ;o)

but if we went for funding - well who would want to fund us? who has an interest and money?

lmao!!!!!!

no you should be a writer!!!

if we did it super nanny style it would mean you plus crew and me in the catering truck with the boom (phew!!)...moving in to someones house for at least a few days!!1

the bbc and channel four make docus all the time and nowadays they are not that fussy what they are about or how they are made as long as they are of watchable quality

if you put together a business plan and send this off with a request for funding and a quote as to how much you will reasonably need, then this is a good place to start

but it has to be coherant and well put together and you must have sourced all your people etc and know exactly what you're doing

i looked into it a while ago when i was thinking about making a docu about something completely different

as for equipment, well i would need to invest in that if i am not bothering with funding

this essentially means - a camera, and editing software

i might look on ebay actually and see what they have

thats good about channel 4.

it sounds like we need a bit of a solid old plan doesn't it.

plan? is that the right word? I mean a thing of exactly what format it will take, cast, equipment, catering fleet, and a good one.

where do you get thosE?

no not too mercinary lol but i think if we wanted funding it would be easier to go the tv route as they also have camera crews to give us and editing suites etc

plus shitloads of experience and probably a director and producers and researchers

well i am gonna put together a plan of what i want to cover and start looking up names and numbers of people in the field

my psych would be a good place to start, and josh probably has a load of contacts from the conference he did a while back

then there is just trawling through research on the net to find info / contacts / organisations etc

i will put something together this week and send you a copy

you are most welcome to do your own research and we can make this happen together

i'm not arsy about it or anything - it doesn't have to be all about meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

it's not like i'm doing it for the money - just think it would be great to get into something like this

(((wingless)))

yeah...it is a scary overwhelming prospect isn't it!? let the thoughts and feelings settle and see how you feel in a while. nothing has to be decided now. would love to have you on board if you should decide you want to do it. but no pressure at all.

:)
